Ellis hits back to bag win

BOWLS: TONGE star Gary Ellis won the annual George and Dragon invitation event at Hyde with a 21-18 final victory over Tommy Johnstone.

He trailed his Warrington opponent 17-10, but showed his renowned battling qualities to hit back.

Ellis defeated Winsford’s Glyn Cookson 21-15 in the last eight and Heswall’s Dave McDermott 21-13 in the semi-finals.

Tonge won their challenge match against M and B Cheslan Hey (Wolverhampton) at Wharton Conservative Club.

The game between the Manchester Premier League and Midlands Premier League champions saw Tonge win seven of the nine games.
