Stevenson strike earns derby draw

FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD extended their unbeaten league run to 13 games in a breathless 1-1 draw at high-flying neighbours Avro in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.
The first half was an even contest with both defences on top, thwarting some good approach play.
Springhead’s Josh Walker was denied when clean through and Adam Monks fired over after a fine pass from Richard Bennett.
At the other end the Avro forwards were keeping the visitors’ backline busy without creating anything clear cut.
This all changed after the restart as Avro produced a fine flowing move finished by Anthony Robinson.
Springhead’s response was almost immediate, with Paul Stevenson’s deflected free-kick finding the target after 47 minutes.
Walker saw his header brilliantly saved while Monks should have done better when put through.
Elsewhere Royton Town earned a 3-3 draw at Walshaw Sports, having trailed 3-0 at the interval.
Carl Beamish, Mike Moss and Ian Hulme pounced to salvage a draw for the visitors despite Wayne Dean’s dismissal for two bookings, given for dissent and a tackle the referee deemed unsafe.
Division One action saw Hollinwood sweep aside Wythenshawe Town 5-2.
RED Star roared to a 3-1 win at Chaddy End in a mid-table battle in D & J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League Jack Abbott Premier Division.
Carl Beamish bagged a brace for the visitors, with Ryan Hobin also getting in on the act.
Tom Keegan replied for the home team.
Red Star now have 12 points to their name and occupy seventh position in the table.
Chaddy End, who stay on 13 points in fifth, also went down 2-0 to Cale Green in the North West Sunday Champions' Cup semi-final at Abbey Hey.
Chaddy conceded twice in the last ten minutes.
A BUSY week for Diggle yielded double delight.
They progressed to the Huddersfield and District League Barlow Cup final with a 4-3 win against Shepley after extra-time, with Paul Swallow, Nathan Boote, Matthew Taylor and Kelvin McWatt on target.
And Diggle also beat Netherton 3-2 in Division One.
Division Two action saw Heyside see off Scholes 4-1 (see John Gilder’s Match of the Day).
