CROMPTON may have finished second from bottom of last year's Lake Garage CLL but, judged on yesterday's demolition of Clifton, they are destined for much brighter things this summer.
Spinner Danny Cashin bagged five for 15 as Clifton were bowled out for a meagre 88 at Glebe Street.
And Crompton passed that total for the loss of five wickets despite Sri Lankan professional Amal Perera's haul of four for 41.
Royton made the best possible start with a seven-wicket demolition of Littleborough at Hare Hill.
Boro were skittled for only 75 as Liam Brown (four for 20) and Matthew Hodson (three for 15) ran amok.
Werneth have high hopes for this season so they will be desperately disappointed with a 26-run reverse at last season's wooden spoonists, Ashton.
The hosts made 143 for nine, Mahmood Ul-Hassan taking four for 33, before Werneth were bowled out for just 117.
New-look Oldham suffered a four-wicket defeat at home to champions Norden.
