Meet the Captains - Saddleworth
TIM Edwards is following in his father’s footsteps at Saddleworth Golf Club.

“I’m sure he would have been most proud," said the 55-year-old, 11-handicapper of dad Trevor, who captained the club in 1983.

The father and son combination tasted success together, with a brace of victories in the Ladcastle pairs knock-out.

And it is in his father's memory that Tim is helping to raise money for the Stroke Association. He is joining forces with Saddleworth lady captain Sue Kneble in supporting the charity in 2012.

Tim's links with the picturesque course go back along way. He first joined as a junior, before signing up to the fully-paid ranks.

A garage proprietor, his two sons, Tom (26) and Jack (23), also played at Saddleworth as youngsters, until they found other distractions. However, there is another Edwards on the list of members in Tim's brother, Nick.

He is looking forward to a busy year, and appreciative of the assistance given by his vice-captain, Gary Simpson.

The pair took part in the first invitation day at Brookdale last weekend — see results round-up — while he acts as host at Saddleworth on May 12.

Tim , who plays up to three times a week, said: “There is a fairly full list of events, so it is going to be good year. Gary Simpson is doing a lot of hard work and I am grateful at what he does. He is a big help.”
