FOOTBALL: MOORSIDE’S Connor Grimsley bagged four goals as his side romped to an emphatic victory over Crowchester United at New Barn playing fields in Huddersfield and District League Division Four.
Grimsley took his season's tally to 35, which includes no fewer than six hat-tricks.
Newcomers to the league this season after eight years as a junior side in the Tameside League, Moorside's inexperience clearly showed in their first 11 games when they picked up just one point.
Yet their last 11 matches have now yielded 25 points, an amazing turnaround and one which bodes well for a promotion push next time round.
Moorside secretary Gary Hyman said: "We started the season with a lot of young lads who had never played open-age football before, but they have grown up quick simply because they had to.
"There is a buzz around the club and promotion next season could be a real possibility.”
SPRINGHEAD extended their unbeaten run in Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division to 14 games after a 2-1 win at Monton.
The visitors found themselves two goals to the good after a quarter-of-an-hour.
Josh Walker broke the deadlock with three minutes on the clock following good work from Adam Monks.
And Monks got his name on the scoresheet soon afterwards, converting Richard Bennett’s delivery.
Springhead looked comfortable until the stroke of half-time, when Mark Ashworth scored an own goal.
DIGGLE will make their fourth appearance in the final of the Huddersfield and District League Barlow Cup when they take on Kirkheaton Rovers on Monday at Huddersfield's Galpharm Stadium (7pm).
Winners of the prestigious competition in 2002, Diggle go into the final in confident mood against a Kirkheaton side playing a level lower in the Huddersfield League. And the village of Diggle itself could be a little quieter than usual on Monday evening.
