POWER PLAY . . . Jordan Hanley makes a break for St Anne’s against Hunslet Warriors.
RUGBY:
IN a physical match at St Anne’s, Hunslet Warriors ran out 32-16 winners after a strong first-half display put them in control of the NCL Division One clash.
The experienced visitors were outstanding in the opening period, with second-row forward Mark Holmes and centre Mark Cunningham scoring two tries apiece.
Chris Hartley added a further try and, with three goals from Gary McLelland, the Warriors were heading for a fifth win from six league outings
Saints’ reply came from centre Dave Harris, who went over for the first of his three tries after a crafty ball-steal.
Harris showed his class to go over in quick succession for his second and third tries and, when Saints man-of-the match Michael Cadd barged over in the 65th minute, they were back in the game at 26-16. A fightback didn;t materialise and in the dying minutes Luke Rayner dived over for a converted try.
