St Anne’s reply in vain

A STRONG second-half show was in vain as Oldham St Anne’s ‘A’ were beaten 32-20 at Leyland Warriors on the opening day of the new North-West Men’s Open Summer League.
Saints found themselves 18-0 down after 40 minutes of the Division Two clash.
The hosts ran in three converted tries for a commanding lead at the break.
A score from John Doherty just after the restart put Saints on the board, but Warriors immediately responded with their fourth try of the afternoon.
The visitors didn’t give up, and prop forward Mike Smith, hooker Ben Marsden and stand-off John Fullalove went over in quick succession. Tom Power kicked two goals at which stage the deficit was a couple of points.
Warriors then stepped up a gear and added two tries and a conversion to claim the spoils.
