BOWLS:
TONGE had to settle for six winners and the aggregate against the Railway, Congleton, in their second Manchester Premier League fixture of the season.
Successful for Tonge in a 9-6 (186-166) victory were Matt Gillies (21-17), Andy Cairns (21-11), Colin Lane (21-15), Steve Squire (21-13), Thomas Dobson (21-13) and Gary Ellis (21-13).
Tonge are at home to Sale XL next Wednesday (7.30pm).
YORKSHIRE county players Gareth McMahon and Steven Hirst teamed up to win the Delph pairs and £200 top prize, beating Waterloo and Taunton partnership Dene Hibbert and Paul Leah 21-18 in the final.
HEATS in Norden BC’S Brennan mixed pairs will be held on Sunday (5.30pm) when Chadderton’s Paul Heap and Christine Kewley are on the bill, along with another local pair, Mark Dwayre and Julie Cloag.
There are vacancies in the competition on Sundays May 6, 13 and 20. Finals will take place on May 27 (6pm).
