FOR the second straight weekend, rain washed away any hopes of play in the Lake Garage CLL.

With anticipation high following the introduction of promotion and relegation in the league, the current campaign has been something of a damp squib.

Fixtures on the opening day of the season were completed, but since then not a ball has been bowled.

ALL matches in the Versasteel Saddleworth and District Cricket League were called off due to rain.

DELPH dodged the showers to defeat Clayton West by two wickets in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership on Saturday.

In the only game to go ahead in the top flight, Arron Lilley scored a superb 86 and took three for 43.

The visitors to Huddersfield Road were restricted to 182 for seven in the match reduced to 48 overs per side. Matt Norvall also claimed three wickets (for 27 runs).

With the light fading fast, Delph clinched victory in double-quick time, with Lilley's effort backed up by Irfan Zahoor's 38.

Meanwhile, yesterday's rain put paid to Delph's Heavy Woollen Cup first-round tie at Wakefield Thornes for a second time. The sides will try again on Sunday, May 13.

DISMISSED for a meagre for just 65, Mike Cassidy's Woodhouses suffered a four-wicket loss at early Lancashire County League leaders Woodbank on Saturday.

LANCASHIRE picked up nine points from the LV= Championship Division One game against Somerset at Taunton after the fourth day was abandoned with a ball bowled.

They are back in action on Wednesday, with Nottinghamshire the visitors to Old Trafford for the first game to be played on the re-orientated square.
