Local players lead county challenge

BOWLS:
GREATER Manchester women’s team, which boasts several local bowlers, takes on Cumbria on Sunday.
The home leg is at Bellingham Bowling Club, Wigan, while the away team travels to Netherfield Sport Club, Kendal.
Local girls playing at Kendal are Karen Houlston, Rachel Fish and Eileen Dawson (Delph), Chris Kewley and Alma Tickle (Springbank), Michelle Renshaw (Dunwood), Diane Fish (Royton), Joan Horton-Diggle, Margaret Brooks and Jacquie Lord (Grapes) and Diane Bowker (Oldham RU).
THE Men’s Greater Manchester Merit starts on May 19 and will be completed next month.
Dates and venues: May 19 - Hopwood Unionist Club, Heywood; May 26 – Stalybridge Rec; June 2 - North Chadderton; June 9 – Eagle and Child, Whitefield. Play starts at 11am.
Finals will be on June 23, from noon.
