CONFIDENT Crompton have been lifted by the return to Glebe Street of medium-fast bowler Ryan Mayes.
The product of the Oldham CC youth system moved to Crompton before leaving for spells at Royton and Milnrow.
He was due to play for Skelmanthorpe in the Huddersfield League this season, but had a late change of heart and was available for Crompton’s washed-out fixture against Norden on Sunday.
Mayes joins a team which skittled Clifton for only 88 on the way to maximum points on the first day of the Lake Garage CLL season.
And skipper Carl Taylor is convinced the strength and variety of his bowling attack will cause many more problems for opposition batsmen.
He said: “We have umpteen bowlers so when we won the toss against Clifton I put them in. Last year we would have batted which just shows the mindset we have this time.”
The terrible weather has affected everyone, but Crompton have done more than most in keeping active and ready for the return to action.
