SPRINGHEAD go into next Thursday’s Gilgryst Cup final Hyde United's Ewen Field ground in scintillating form (kick-off 7.30pm).
They are unbeaten in their final 17 games of the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League season. Stockport Georgians stand in the way of Springhead claiming a first Gilgryst Cup.
The last two matches of Lee McAllister side’s highly impressive run-in saw victories over bottom-of-the-table Heywood St James (4-2) and runaway champions Hindsford (2-0).
The Hindsford win, coupled with the lengthy run of unbeaten matches, marks them down as among the title favourites next season.
But all thoughts turn to the Gilgryst Cup, a competition in which boss McAllister tasted final defeat as a Springhead player several years ago.
He said: “We couldn’t be in better form, and having won the Manchester League title and finished runners-up in the past, it would be nice to add the Gilgryst Cup to our silverware."
McAllister has no injury worries and has named a 16-man squad, which includes 15-goal leading marksman Richard Bennett, together with Josh Walker, Paul Stevenson and Mark Hopwood, all of whom are on double figures for the season.
