FOLLOWING two defeats apiece at the start of the Lake Garage CLL season, Werneth and Oldham went into the derby at the Coppice knowing one of them was about to break their duck.
And it was the home side who came out on top in a match dominated by batsmen.
Taking first guard, Werneth rattled up an impressive 283 for seven thanks to a quickfire 98 from professional Hasnain Abbas, 70 from Joe Taylor and 34 from overseas amateur Kyle Roberts.
That daunting score could have sparked an Oldham capitulation, but to their credit the Pollards men produced a great effort in an attempt to snatch an unlikely victory.
ROYTON bounced back to form with a comprehensive home victory over Monton and Weaste.
The in-form Chris McDonnell scored 63 and skipper Alan Durose 51 as Royton reached 216 for eight after taking first guard.
In reply, Monton were skittled for 103.
CROMPTON completed a disappointing weekend with a crushing 201-runs defeat at Milnrow, who took first guard and made 280 for five.
Home professional Babar Naeem scored 59, Jehangir a rapid 71 and Max Power 62.
Crompton were bowled out for 152 despite overseas amateur Denis Louis's 79. Unsworth paid man Jonathan Fowler claimed seven for 31.
ROYTON went down by 18 runs at Heywood, who made 243 for six after being put in by visiting skipper Alan Durose. Danny Pawson top scored with 61.
Royton were eventually bowled out for 225.
A last-wicket partnership of 42 floored OLDHAM, who had reduced visitors Clifton to 101 for nine in reply to 141.
WERNETH slumped to a five-wicket loss at Rochdale.
After being bowled out for 152, Werneth made early inroads, but Andrew Dawson's unbeaten 57 and Greg Butterworth's 38 not out saw the hosts home.
MATCHES scheduled for the second and third weekends of the Lake Garage CLL are to be played after all.
Rain washed out the programme on April 22 and 29 and they will be played on September 8 and 15.
