Rallying call for Handicap entries

BOWLS:
WITH the start of this year’s Oldham Evening Chronicle Bowling Handicap only three weeks away, would-be entrants must act quickly.
Entries have been slow to reach competition official Bob Nisbet and event chairman — our own Keith McHugh — has issued a call for local players to continue their support of the prestigious local tournament.
He said: “A lot of competitions struggle for entries these days, but the Oldham public have always supported the Chronicle event. It has a rich and long history, so it is imperative we keep it going.’
Heats on June 1 and 8 will have a start time of 6.45pm, with practice from 6.30pm at each venue.
The four greens being used for heats are North Chadderton Social and Bowling Club, Nimble Nook, Moorside and Stanley Road.
The finals will be held at Royton CC on Saturday, July 7 (6.30pm).
To enter, email bobnisbet12@hotmail.co.uk with your name, address and phone number, club affiliations (if any), and preferred heat date. Follow up quickly with a cheque or postal order for the entry fee of £5 (payable to Oldham evening Chronicle Bowling Handicap) and send to Bob Nisbet, 22 Severn Road, Hollinwood, OL8 3RQ. Entry will only be accepted when payment is received.
TONGE continued their fine early-season form in the Manchester Premier League with a 13.5-3 (197-154) win at Warrington outfit Pierpoint.
