Saints eye pick-me-up

RUGBY:
OLDHAM St Anne’s look to have a terrific chance of progressing in the Conference Challenge Cup tomorrow.
Saints, from Division One of the National Conference League, play host to Heworth, rock-bottom of Division Two and with the worst defensive record in the competition.
Apart from clinching a place in round two, victory would also be a welcome confidence-booster for Chris Deakin’s side, who lost heavily at Millom last week when they had to make a clutch of changes.
“We’re not going to win the cup, but it would be nice to get a victory and put in a good performance,” said Deakin, who will be without Kevin McCormack, Mick Wallace, Paul Cadd and Dave Harris for the tie.
“We’re stuck in a bit of a rut at the moment, mainly because we’ve struggled to field a settled side.”
