LUNDI Mbane struck his first century for Shaw — exactly 100 not out — as they defeated hosts Old Xaverians by 124 runs in round one of the LCB Cup.

The South African professional was backed up by Abid Fazil’s unbeaten 94 in a total of 267 for three from 45 overs.

Old Xaverians, from the Liverpool Competition, were dismissed for 143, with Shaw captain Andy Young claiming five for 29.

But Uppermill (126) were shown the exit door after succumbing by 114 runs at Garstang (Palace Shield), who recorded 240 for eight thanks mainly to a third-wicket stand of 114 in 16 overs between Andy Cook (65) and Mike Winstanley (50).

Stand-out performers for the Leefields outfit were James Baron (three for 22) and Darren Shadford (48). Saddleworth (168), despite half-centuries from Quasier Rashid and Peter Skuse, lost by 87 runs at home to Elton (Bolton Association), who made 255 for nine. Steve Howard picked up three for 50.

Woodhouses, restricted to 151, suffered a six-wicket defeat at Bamford Fieldhouse.

The visitors, from the Lancashire County League, were grateful for a superb 97 from Josh Tolley, who was eventually bowled by Grant Hodnett. Marlon Black accounted for five for 29. Chris Schofield posted 78 in reply.
