CROMPTON returned to winning ways with a crucial Lake Garage CLL victory – but there was more misery for winless Oldham.

After two successive defeats, Crompton were desperate for a home win against Ashton.

And they delivered in some style, recording an eight-wicket victory thanks to a superb performance from professional Simon Wright.

Wright, who has returned to the club as professional following a couple of seasons at Bamford Fieldhouse in the Saddleworth League, showed his worth with a six for 48 haul as Ashton were bowled out for 133, pro Asif Iqbal top scoring with 39.

Spin bowler Danny Cashin, who has made a big impact since his return to Glebe Street, chipped in with three for 54.

Crompton made short work of knocking off the runs needed for victory, reaching their target for the loss of only two wickets.

If it was joy for Crompton, it was despair for Oldham who were not even competitive in an eight-wicket defeat at Monton and Weaste.

They were bowled out for just 96.
