WHO PLAYS WHO? The draw for the Conference Challenge Cup second round was made at Saddleworth Rangers. From left: John Bateman (Bradford Bulls), Andy Harland (RFL representative for the National Conference), John McMullen (competition manager of the North-West Mens' League).
RUGBY:
OLDHAM St Anne’s crossed 14 times as they eased through to the next stage of the Conference Challenge Cup.
Saints dispatched Heworth 70-4 to set up a second-round clash away to top-flight outfit Thatto Heath Crusaders on Saturday, July 14.
It was a nice confidence-booster for Chris Deakin’s side, who are at the wrong end of National Conference League Division One.
Man-of-the-match Jordan Galloway and full-back Ged Roods both scored a hat-trick of tries against the team languishing at the bottom of Division Two without a point to their name.
The writing was on the wall for Heworth at half-time as Saints surged into a 44-0 lead in front of their own supporters.
Saints displayed plenty of enterprise, and will be hoping they can replicate this performance for the visit of Egremont Rangers in the league on Saturday.
DIVISION Two promotion hopefuls Waterhead had no answer to hosts Oulton Raiders, who ran in 11 tries for a 50-0 victory in their first-round encounter.
THE draw for the second round was staged immediately after the tie at Saddleworth Rangers (see picture). Milford Marlins will play Rochdale Mayfield; Bradford Dudley Hill v Ovenden; Siddal v West Hull; Egremont Rangers v Castleford Panthers; Wigan St Patrick’s v Askam; Leigh East v Leigh Miners Rangers; Oulton Raiders v Wath Brow Hornets; Thatto Heath v Oldham St Anne’s.
