Pauline in quest for Chronicle hat-trick

PAULINE RICHARDSON holds the Chronicle Cup.
GOLF:
PAULINE Richardson will bid for a Chronicle Cup hat-trick at Brookdale next Wednesday.
Having won the trophy two years ago at her home course of Saddleworth, she retained it 12 months later at Oldham.
Winning on another course represents an even bigger challenge: she starts her attempt at 10.50am.
DAVID Pullen and David Whaley won Saddleworth’s invitation Stableford with an impressive score of 47 points.
Pullen, Saddleworth captain in 2009, and Whaley, the Werneth captain during the same year, had eagles at holes four, seven and 17.
And five birdies helped them to their massive points haul and a four-points victory over second-placed Alan Entwistle and Alan Squires (Oldham).
Graham Wildbore and Burt Ashton (42 points) won a card play-off for third against current Saddleworth captain Tim Edwards and his Werneth counterpart Lee Rowbotham.
LAST season’s ‘A’ League finalists are setting a hot pace in their quest for a rematch.
Champions North Manchester will have been delighted with a 7-1 win at local rivals Blackley.
And Werneth captain Mark Abbott was equally pleased with a 6-2 victory at Saddleworth.
There was better news for the Mountain Ash club when their ‘B’ team secured three points at Werneth to hold a two-point lead at the top of the East Division.
Blackley are the early pacesetters in the West Division after a fine 5-3 success at North Manchester.
Meanwhile, Dukinfield ‘A’ team player Martin Schofield knocked the pin out at the second hole — literally.
His approach hit the flag three-quarters of the way up and sent if flying out of the hole. Alas, his ball rebounded to the front of the green.
CHRIS Peirson scored 38 Stableford points to win Mr President’s prize at Oldham.
Sue Radcliffe took the first sweep with 36 points, while Sandra Newton claimed the second with 32.
Chris also teamed up with Bev Mercer to win the Scott Leggett Foursomes with a haul of 33 points. Mary Buckley and Anne Rotchell were second with 29.
And the in-form player made it a hat-trick of successes with a 5 and 3 victory for Oldham in their Bell Cup match against Walmersley. Her win was not enough to prevent a 4-3 team loss. Oldham’s other
winners were Janet Kershaw (7 and 6) and Mary Buckley (6 and 4).
