Tonge in surprise home loss

BOWLS:
TONGE suffered a rare home defeat in their Manchester Premier League clash with Chorley outfit St Joseph’s.
Champions for the last two seasons and leading the way again, Tonge had only five winners and went down on aggregate by a single point to the team in second place.
THE response to appeals for entries for this year’s Oldham Evening Chronicle Bowling Handicap was positive: only a few places now remain.

A VETERANS’ Inter-League competition will be held at Alexandra Park on Monday (11am).
The Oldham League will be involved in the round-robin event on two greens against Middleton, Salford and Tameside.
HEATS in the Saddleworth Bowling League’s Sharpe Cup, sponsored by Len Sharpe, will be played at Crompton, Nimble Nook, Waterloo and Taunton and Springbank on Saturday, May 26 (2pm).
The finals will take place the following day, May 27, at Springhead.

OLDHAM’S Steve Mellor and Maureen Fisher reached the finals of the Brennan mixed pairs at Norden BC with a 21-8 victory over A and B Hill (Bolton). Heats continue on Sunday (5.30pm).
