FOOTBALL:
Highfield United 1, Failsworth Dynamos 7
FAILSWORTH Dynamos striker Luke Mack stuck the knife into Highfield United to give his side a fighting chance of avoiding relegation from David Giblin Division One in the D&J Builders (North West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League.
Mack took his three goals with aplomb, but credit must also go to his stand-in fellow front man Karl Hallas — normally a defender — who chipped in with a double.
While Dynamos earned the credit, this was a somewhat sombre occasion for United, who will tender their resignation to the league at the next meeting.
There was the potential for the side to bow out on a high, but their Challenge Cup quarter-final tie against Anglers ended in defeat, United losing 5-4 on penalties.
Conditions on Royton and Crompton 3G were easily the worst of the season with a strong wind and driving rain saw Dynamos take full advantage of United’s injury woes.
EVERGREEN striker Jason Glasgow came off the bench in his last match to convert a penalty and give Legends victory in the final of the D and J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League David Giblin Division One Shield.
The name of Jason Glasgow has been synonymous with Oldham Sunday League goals for what seems like an eternity. The 45 year old signed off in style at Chadderton FC to keep his nerve from 12 yards and help his side beat Failsworth Athletic 2-1.
Legends manager Steve Patterson paid tribute to Glasgow and said: "What a way to finish your time in amateur football. Jason has been great for us."
STEVE Barrow pounced twice as Coppice United ‘A’ beat Limeside King George 4-2 in the D & J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League Jack Abbott Premier Division Shield final.
Yasir Ali and Ikram Baud completed the scoring for Coppice at Chadderton FC.
Ali said: “It was extra special because we feel we should have had a better season in the league.
“We played well and made sure there was a happy ending in the final.”
