Swaine secures last-gasp victory

FITTON Hill Bulldogs claimed their first win of the season, seeing off Bolton Mets 31-30 at home in North-West Men’s League Division Five.
With the game seemingly heading for a 30-30 draw, Martin Swaine kicked a drop goal with just seconds remaining.
Just minutes earlier, the visitors thought they had ensured a share of the spoils with a late try.
Aaron Fleming crossed three times for Fitton Hill, while Carl Mulloy, Carl Gemmall and Ben Smith also forced their way over.
Coach Mick Whaley said: “We were delighted to get the first win under our belts.
“The lads were excellent and totally deserved it.”
Featuring a host of new signings, Saddleworth Rangers ‘A’ shocked high-flying visitors Wigan St Cuthberts by taking a 16-point lead before eventually losing the Division Four match 30-16.
North-West Men’s League
Kevin Collins crossed twice for Rangers and Neil Oldham also went over, with Collins converting on two occasions.
Waterhead roared to a 46-10 triumph at Eccles.
In Division Two, Oldham St Anne’s couldn’t raise a team against Chorley Panthers.
TRIP
Higginshaw’s trip to Widnes St Marie’s ‘A’ in Division Three was postponed.
oIN the Premier Division of the North-West Youth League, Oldham St Anne’s under-18s defeated local rivals Waterhead 20-12.
Saddleworth Rangers lost 22-6 at home to Crosfields in the under-16s Premier Division, but Waterhead fought out a 12-12 draw against Burtonwood Bulldogs in Division Two.
