Rick’s batting on...

TROUBLED by a foot injury which has curtailed his useful seam bowling, Rick Harrington has shown he is no mug with the bat.

The all-rounder’s superb 110 was the inspiration behind Shaw’s emphatic 113-run defeat of Stayley in the first round of the Moore Cup.

And it will have given first-team skipper Andy Young food for thought as he prepares to welcome Droylsden on Saturday.

Holders Bamford Fieldhouse, shot out for only eight runs the previous weekend, booked their place in the next stage after a 139-run win at Micklehurst.

Beaten finalists from 2011, Hollinwood sealed a second-round date at Glodwick after sweeping aside Greenfield by 78 runs.

It was a good day for the Glodwick club, with the first and second teams getting the better of Uppermill, the latter winning with seven wickets to spare after being set 215 for victory.

The lads from Heyside also had a double cause for celebration.

While the first XI knocked out their Saddleworth counterparts at Little Hey Street, the seconds overcame their hosts by 18 runs at Well-i-Hole.

Heyside’s reward is a home tie against Droylsden, who had a comfortable seven-wicket success against Moorside.

Draw for round two of the Moore Cup is —

Bamford v Austerland; Friarmere v Shaw; Heyside v Droylsden; Glodwick v Hollinwood. Ties take place on Saturday, June 16.

BAMFORD Fieldhouse put Blackrod in their place in round two of the National Knock-out Cup in a match of 20 overs per side.

Chris Schofield claimed four for 16 and Martin Smith two for 11 as the visitors to Hollin Lane succumbed to 94 all out.

Bamford clinched victory with nine wickets and eight overs to spare. Grant Hodnett (51) and Schofield (39) were the unbeaten batsmen.

Paddy McKeown’s side will face Bramhall (Cheshire County League) in the next round on a date and ground to be advised.
