WHAT a weekend for Heyside professional Gerrie Snyman.

After smashing 103 and claiming five wickets in the defeat of Micklehurst in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League on Saturday, the Namibian all-rounder played a pivotal role in the rousing 15-run victory over shellshocked Chorley yesterday.

A place in round three of the LCB Cup was at stake, and Snyman produced another red-hot performance to please the large crowd at Little Hey Street.

The 31-year-old struck six sixes and five fours in a belligerent knock of 76 and snared five for 32 as Chorley’s run chase petered out in the face of a stirring fightback.

Snyman spoke of the relief before he went out to bat of scoring his first ton for Heyside 24 hours earlier, and there was a freedom in his strokeplay which epitomised a man who has found his feet at his new club.

In that he was allowed to play his shots is credit to John Selby (43) and Ben Holt (33) for a fine opening stand of 90.
