Geener slams Waterhead show

RUGBY: WATERHEAD were well beaten at Featherstone Lions in Division Two, going down to a 48-26 loss — a performance coach Paul Geener described as “the worst I have seen for an awful long time”.
Tries from Gary Dyas, Anthony Yates, Danny Glassell (two) and Josh Blackmore (two) helped the Lions take a 26-10 lead into the interval.
But for the Peach Road side, that was a disappointing return. Especially so as winger Peter Davies and centre Ash Wildman had touched down first, Mick Diveney converting once.
There was renewed hope in the opening stages of the second period as Terry Fitzgerald and Kieran Grennan scored for the visitors.
But Luke Thomas and Ricky Williams tries, plus two more Glassell conversions, made it 44-22.
Davies added a second for ill-disciplined Waterhead, but hooker Dean Gamble had the last say for the Lions.
