ANGLING:

THE Chadderton Mill AC match on the club water saw Darren Webb finish first with 47lb.
In-form Darren is on a good run at the moment, winning the Medlock Bridge AC Monday evening match on Park Lake with 26lb 15oz of chub.

Ian Cox won the Chadderton Mill AC match on the club water with 52lb.

THE second of the Diggle AC Tuesday evening matches contested at Tanners Dam was won by Mark Heginbottom. His 10-metre pole and meat netted him 24lb 6oz of carp and skimmers.

JOHN Jones (Garbolino) took first place in the Hollingworth Lake open match with his groundbait feeder and maggot hookbait cast 35 yards catching him bream to 3lb 8oz, and a final 14lb tally.

THE Diggle AC match on Tanners Dam was won by John Berry with his 12lb 4oz catch of skimmers and roach falling to maggot and pellet, at six metres and 14 metres.

DARREN Sixsmith won the latest Chadderton Mill AC Thursday evening match with 62lb 2oz.

I fished the last of the Huddersfield Broad canal spring league matches. And to be honest it couldn’t finish quickly enough.

The fishing was really poor as the roach failed to feed throughout the six-match series.

It was the same pegs throwing up big bream, chub or pike and everyone else struggling.

Without drawing a decent peg throughout the series it really was a struggle: I broke the 1lb barrier only once!

Individually it was Trabrucco team-mate and fellow Oldham angler Martin Taylor leading going into this last match, closely followed by Dennis White.

A bad draw was gutting for Martin as Dennis had drawn a peg that had won four out of the previous five matches. And he didn’t disappoint, winning the match with 17lb of bream.

Teamwise it was a close run thing with a few of the Trabrucco teams in with a chance of winning the £800 prize.

But several lost big fish, which saw them relegated to second, beaten by Barnsley by just one point.

Our Trabrucco Halifax National is on the Keadby Canal in South Yorkshire this year so there will be plenty of travelling over the next six weeks as the big match is on Saturday, July 28.
