Rangers face another tough test

RUGBY:

League fixture compilers must have something against Saddleworth Rangers.

After being pitted against leaders Wigan St Patrick’s, third-placed Leigh Miners Rangers and Thatto Heath Crusaders (who are fifth) in the past month, Emerson Jackman’s side go to Myton Warriors tomorrow.

Warriors make up the set — they are fourth in the National Conference League’s premier division, and come into the game on the back of a 32-16 win at West Hull.

Saddleworth’s position at the foot of the table belies recent performances. They drew 30-30 with Leigh Miners last weekend — after holding a 24-6 lead midway through the second period.

Victory would do Saddleworth’s confidence the world of good, lifting them above second-bottom Oulton Raiders.

With only one league win in Division One, Oldham St Anne’s are also in need of a pick-me-up.

Chris Deakin’s boys are at least at home to West Yorkshire outfit Castleford Lock Lane, and will hope to make that count.

Apart from being hit for 68 points at Millom at the beginning of May, when several first-team regulars were unavailable, Saints have shown up well, despite being unable to field a settled side.

By joint coach Paul Geener’s own admission, WATERHEAD were poor at lowly Featherstone Lions, where they slipped to a 48-26 defeat in the Division Two clash.

They are at Eastmoor Dragons this weekend, and Geener will not want lightning to strike twice.
