Dramatic win for Crompton

CRICKET: CROMPTON maintained their hopes of success in the CLL’s Lees Bitter Twenty20 Competition with a dramatic victory over Walsden at Glebe Street.
The visitors took first guard and made a challenging 133 for six, an expensive last over from Ryan Mayes boosting their total.
And when Crompton — or so they thought — needed four off the last ball of their 20 overs for victory, Walsden must have fancied their chances.
Denis Louis (55 not out) hit the ball well and he and skipper Carl Taylor ran three runs to secure a tie.
But when the rules were checked properly, it transpired that Crompton had won the game by virtue of losing fewer wickets — five to their opponents’ six.
None of the other three local teams were able to bowl a ball as rain washed out play.
The derby between Royton and Werneth was a victim of the weather and it was the latter who won a bowl-out, 3-2, to secure the group points.
Oldham should have played Ashton at the Pollards, but at least they had the consolation of winning the bowl-out, 2-0.
