CRICKET: Friarmere wicketkeeper Andy Walker had to think long and hard when asked about his previous century.
“I think it was before my children were born — probably 10 years ago,” was the reply.
Walker bridged the gap with a superb 107 against Uppermill at Leefields.
“The ball seemed to strike the middle of the bat from ball one,” he said. “I knocked the second delivery over mid-wicket for six.
“The wicket was good. It wasn’t doing anything and I just seemed to get a lot of balls in the right areas.
“I had 15 fours and six sixes, so I only actually ran 11 runs. I was trying to conserve my energy!”
Walker rescued Friarmere’s innings, striding to the crease with his side realing at 24 for four against the reigning champions, who went on to win the game on the Weathertime system after rain.
He was eventually trapped lbw by Darren Shadford after helping to post 193. He had a priceless ally in Abdul Chand, who contributed 39.
Walker is glad to be back playing regularly again after missing nearly all of last season because of injury.
