Heat is on at Moorside

THE last place in the finals of the Oldham Evening Chronicle Bowling Handicap will be up for grabs on Sunday (6pm).
Moorside stages the remaining qualifier after rain washed out the scheduled heats last Friday.
Seven players have already booked their places on finals night at Royton on Saturday, July 7. Sunday’s successful player will complete the line-up and face Barbara Cooper in the last eight.
TONGE got their Manchester Premier League title challenge back on track with a 10-4.5 (194-153) home victory over Longwood. Winners for Tonge were Jimmy Derby (21-14), Matt Gillies (21-17), Nicky Brooks (21-18), Mark Dwayre (21-11), Thomas Dobson (21-12), Darren Griffiths (21-5) and Graham Hickey (21-13). Tonge face a trip to Stockport side Nursery next Wednesday (7.30pm).
GREATER Manchester juniors kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Drakes Pride County Championship with a 417-392 defeat of Cheshire.
They need to beat South Yorkshire in their final group match on July 8 and hope Cheshire beat the Potteries.
NORDEN BC’s Thwaites men’s pairs gets under way on Sunday (5.30pm), alongside the A C Ventilation women’s pairs. There are still vacancies in both competitions on June 24, and July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, and August 5. The finals will be held on August 12. Info: Steve or Jean on 01706 527219.
