HEYSIDE, skippered by Nick Campbell, have excelled in cup ties this season.
Through to the last-eight of the LCB Cup after great wins over Chorley and Netherfield, the lads from Little Hey Street are now setting their sights on a Tanner Cup semi-final spot.
Knock-out competitions seem to bring out the best in Campbell’s men, but they can expect a bumpy ride at improving Moorside tomorrow.
After a couple of years in the doldrums, the hosts are finally showing what they are capable of and in all-rounder Francois Mostert they have one of the leading overseas amateurs in the league.
With only one win in seven games — two fixtures have been abandoned — Heyside’s form in the league hasn’t been up to scratch. Victory tomorrow and at home to Hollinwood in the league on Sunday, would give them a confidence boost.
Elsewhere in the Tanner Cup Glodwick caused the surprise of the first round by overcoming league leaders Uppermill. It was a deserved victory for Nigel Stock’s team, but defeat against Hollinwood, who rattled up 221 against Bamford Fieldhouse recently, would put that good work to waste.
Austerlands appear to be up against it at home to Bamford Fieldhouse, although they did shock the cup holders in the league at Nursery Fields last season.
The swift removal of pro Kamran Hussain and overseas amateur Usman Malvi is key to Friarmere’s hopes of defeating hosts Stayley.
DELPH will look for a return to winning ways in the Drakes Huddersfield Premiership tomorrow when they entertain Slaithwaite, who are without a win in nine matches.
Grant Jones’ side lost at unbeaten leaders Elland last time out. But they did navigate their way past Cawthorne in the Sykes Cup third round.
WOODHOUSES travel to Roe Green tomorrow in Lees Brewery Lancashire County League Division One.
Mike Cassidy’s men, 11th in the table, can close the eight-point gap on their opponents, who are eighth.
