Points mission vital for strugglers

RUGBY:
AMATEUR rugby league fans are spoilt for choice tomorrow as all three local sides play at home in the National Conference League (all 2.30pm).
Saddleworth Rangers and Oldham St Anne’s are desperate for points — they are bottom of their respective divisions — while Waterhead are keeping tabs on promotion places.
Rangers, after shipping 48 points in the defeat at West Hull last weekend, entertain East Hull in the Premier Division. Emerson Jackman’s men got off to a decent start but were 18-6 down at the break, with no way back.
ST ANNE’S could climb two places in Division One if they get the better of Wigan St Judes.
Despite losing by only four points to fellow strugglers Stanley Rangers in their most recent outing, coach Chris Deakin was able to take comfort from the display.
Saints enjoyed an 18-6 lead at the break, before Rangers used the advantage of the slope in the second half to mount a fightback.
WATERHEAD will be glad to get back on the field after last week’s wash-out. Mid-table Widnes West Bank are the visitors to Peach Road and victory would maintain Waterhead’s position in the top five.
