North Manchester move closer to title

GOLF:
REIGNING champions North Manchester ‘A’ have taken a decisive step to retaining their Oldham and District Golf League title.
They need to finish in the top two of the division to qualify for the play-offs and opened up an eight-point lead at the top of the West Division when they travelled to nearest rivals Dukinfield and came away with a 7-1 win.
But it’s a different story in the East Division as Werneth, beaten by North in the 2011 play-off final, seem to be faltering.
They once held a nine-point lead at the top but they lost for the first time this season — 5-3 at Brookdale — and their lead has been cut to only four as Fairfield registered an 8-0 home success over Crompton and Royton.
C&R’s ‘B’ team returned the favour in their match and they have now gone five clear of Ashton and Werneth, who were restricted to 5-3 and 4-4 home results by Saddleworth and Brookdale respectively.
