NETBALL:

LIZ Harris has been handed the North-West Golden Globe Award for netball teacher of the year.

A member of Hulme Grammar’s PE department, Liz has played an integral role in the school’s success in various tournaments.

In the last 12 months the Year Sevens, Nines, 10s and 11s won the Oldham Schools Netball Rallies, while the Sevens, Nines and 10s triumphed in the Oldham Schools Knock-Out Cup. At county level, the under-12s, under-14s and under-16s roared to victory in the Greater Manchester County competitions.

And after finishing as runners-up, the under-16s qualified for the national finals in Basildon, where they ended up second in the UK.

The under-15s and under-19s sides entered the Independent Schools Netball Cup for the first time — and both won.

Jo Knighton, head of PE at Hulme Grammar, said: “Liz runs lunchtime clubs every day and regular matches after school to keep teams in good match form.

“She has organised for a sports psychologist to come in and work with some of the teams on achieving the mental edge and a coach to work on fitness.

“Liz gives up so much free time and all her hard work has really paid off this season.’
