HEYSIDE captain Nick Campbell believes his side’s excellent Tanner Cup form can kick-start their Saddleworth and District League Division One campaign.
The Little Hey Street outfit have recorded only one league triumph this term and have picked up only 54 points from the first seven matches of the season.
In contrast, Heyside have already scored five wins in knockout cricket, the latest eliminating Moorside and progressing to the Tanner Cup semi-finals.
Campbell, whose side face Bamford Fieldhouse in the last four on Sunday, July 15, said: “I was absolutely delighted with the way we played against Moorside — it was a brilliant batting performance and we fielded really well..”
As for the prospect of Heyside — 12th in the table, the lowest of the four remaining sides in the competition — lifting the Tanner Cup, Campbell is cautiously optimistic.
He added: “We know Bamford Fieldhouse are a very strong team and it is going to be difficult. But we have beaten them before and we are capable of doing it again, so who knows?”
