ANGLING:
KEN Power and his grandson Jamie Cantello (both Tri-Cast Highfield) had a cracker of a weekend in the Old Hough Farm Open and, 24 hours later, on the Trent and Mersey Canal.
The first contest saw Ken take second with 41lb 8oz of tench, crucians, skimmers, idea and roach.
Jamie was right behind him after accounting for f1s, ide, roach and tench adding up to 35lb 11oz.
In the second event, a Tri-Cast Highfield open match, Jamie was third after catching 120 gudgeon and roach on squatt tactics which weighed in at 2lb 10oz.
DARREN Webb has certainly got Chadderton Mill Lodge sussed after claiming his third win in seven matches in the Chadderton Mill AC summer championships. Webb caught mostly ide up in the water on caster and maggot before a late switch to corn down the edge tempted a good carp that took his weight to 63lb 8oz. Phil Hulme was second with his 50lb 8oz net including 30lb of ide taken on long pole, maggot and caster switching to pellet and corn down the edge for some carp.
BILLY Brierley again took top spot in the Medlock Bridge AC open match on the Park Lake, with his long pole and maggot bait tempting 20lb 14oz of chub, bream and the odd roach.
THE Medlock Bridge open was moved to Strinesdale reservoir and there were no complaints as the water fished really well. Pete Cuniffe used his usual pole and caster approach to easily win the match with his good roach and skimmer net weighing 18lb 6oz.
MICK McDermott is having a cracking season and he further enhanced his reputation with a win in the Winsford Flash open match where his skimmers and bream gave him a return of 34lb 7oz.
DAVE Ireland came out on top in the Monarch AC match fished on club water with an outstanding 26lb 2oz of ide and roach which fell to pole, chopped worm and caster.
