ALAN DUROSE: the Royton skipper’s 28 was in vain.

CROMPTON bowed out of the Lees Bitter Twenty20 Competition in heartbreaking fashion.
Chasing Milnrow’s total of 114 for five in the Lake Garage CLL’s runfest competition, they fell a single short of their target for the loss of seven wickets, despite an excellent 66 from stand-in professional Gerrie Snyman of Heyside.
Royton also suffered disappointment, losing by eight wickets at home to Oldham, who were winning at the Paddock for the second time in the space of 24 hours.
Royton were bowled out for 82 despite Alan Durose’s 28, Oldham pro Hassan Sheheryar taking four for 17.
And Oldham passed that target for the loss of two wickets, with Sheheryar hitting 27.
It means Oldham go through to the last eight. Werneth, who were already in the quarter-finals, had a comfortable win against Ashton in a match switched to the Coppice due to Ashton’s ground being unfit following the weekend downpours.
Taking first guard, Werneth made 149 for eight and then bowled out Ashton for 120 with Joe Burston taking three for 13.
