New date for Werneth Pro-Am
Date published: 29 June 2012
GOLF: WERNETH have been able to rearrange their prestigious Pro-Am tournament.
The 35-team field was KO’d by torrential rain on Friday, but negotiations between the Garden Suburb club and PGA North have resulted in a re-run on August 17. All teams in the original field are asked to confirm their entry with Werneth professional James Matterson on (0161) 628 7136). Extra places will be available.
Graham Maly of PGA North said: “It was obvious when we had an early-morning inspection of the course that play was not going to be possible. We are delighted a new date has been found.”
WERNETH women’s first major of the season is turning into a real marathon.
Pat Grant and Tracey Rowbotham finished clear of the field in difficult conditions with net 79s — but an 18-hole play-off failed to find a winner and they will now look to settle it over 18 more later this week.
Meanwhile, Ann Head won lady captain’s day at SADDLEWORTH with a total 145 after rounds of 73 and 72. Head finished clear of runner-up Fiona Hesten, who scored 73 and 75 for 148.
