Boro departs Whitebank for Atherton
Date published: 27 June 2012
FOOTBALL: OLDHAM Boro are to play their football out of the area next season after opting to leave Whitebank and share a ground with Atherton Collieries in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One.
Boro had an option to share with Oldham RL Club for another season, but decided to move on — despite the prospect of losing local fans. The deciding factor was an FA directive which says they should have first say on fixture dates - something they do not have at Whitebank, where first call goes to Oldham Rugby.
Boro hope to return to Oldham in time for their 50th anniversary in 2014. Manager Tony Mills said: “It is a real shame we are going to be playing outside Oldham, but we felt it was time to move on.
“We are extremely grateful to Atherton Collieries for their help in allowing us to play our home
fixtures at their ground. This will secure the short-term future of Oldham Boro. We are working with Oldham Council to identify possible sites for development.”
