Grounds for concern at Friarmere

OFFICIALS at Friarmere Cricket Club are concerned about the state of the outfield.
While questions were raised regarding the decision to call off matches at Droylsden and Heyside after heavy rain the previous day — see separate story — there were no such issues at West View.
Large parts of the ground are covered with moss, which prevented water from draining away properly.
Friarmere secretary Gary Kershaw said: “It sits on top and doesn’t go anywhere.
“We’ve looked into it and it will cost about £2,500 to fix. It would also take two or three weeks for the ground to recover after treatment and that’s just not possible at this stage when games are taking place every weekend.”
Kershaw added: “The plan was to do the work before the start of the season, but then it snowed.
“I’m afraid it’s going to be touch and go every time we get appreciable rainfall.”
