Crompton due a change of luck

SIMON WRIGHT . . . spell on the sidelines.

CROMPTON are a club in need of a swift change of fortune.
The Glebe Street outfit had plenty of luck last weekend – unfortunately, all of it bad.
Saturday’s game against Middleton saw Crompton post a competitive score of 163 for three off 37 overs.
That score would have prove mighty difficult to reach had it not been for the contribution of 47 from opener Steve Davey, who was dropped on nought.
Sunday’s game at Walsden was equally frustrating. Having made 186 for nine off their 50 overs, Crompton saw the rain come down along with the revised score their hosts required.
Walsden reached their target in some comfort for the loss of four wickets.
To compound Crompton’s misery, professional Simon Wright pulled a hamstring while batting, was unable to bowl and faces a spell on the sidelines.
Even worse was to follow on Monday in the Lees Bitter Twenty20 Competition.
Needing to beat Milnrow to book a place in the quarter-finals, Crompton restricted Milnrow to 114 for five.
However, the scoreboard indicated Milnrow had made 113 and, when deputy pro Gerrie Snyman hit a six off the penultimate ball of the innings, Crompton were 113 for five, believing they needed one run to win.
So, too, did Milnrow, who brought in all their fieldsmen to try to prevent the single.
However, that proved to be a master stroke they had not planned as Snyman hit the ball straight down mid-on’s throat and Crompton subsequently discovered they had lost by one run.
LIFTED by their derby victory over Royton, OLDHAM travel to Rochdale tomorrow.
Out-of-form ROYTON host Middleton while WERNETH, who returned to winning ways against Ashton last weekend, are away to reigning champions Norden.
A CRICKET match on Sunday will raise money for those affected by the Shaw explosion.
CLL side Crompton play host to Shaw, from the Saddleworth and District Cricket League, in a Twenty20 game (from 1pm).
Donations and raffle prizes will be accepted on the day for the victims of the tragic event.
