‘Gentleman’ Trevor dies at 70

CRICKET: LOCAL cricket has lost one of its most influential and popular figures.
Trevor Bland (70) was president of CLL outfit Werneth CC, and previously a driving force at Moorside, in the Saddleworth and District League.
His cricketing career began at Austerlands CC. A spell at Moorside followed and, on his retirement from the game, he became president of the club.
Trevor, who founded Moorside Metals — sponsors of the Saddleworth League for several seasons — with two colleagues at Moorside, retained his links with the club and was a life president and a club trustee.
Trevor was a member at Werneth for more than four decades.
His friend Howard Dronsfield - Werneth chairman and former CLL chairman — said: “Trevor was a very generous person and a gentleman. He was a hard worker, but a man who enjoyed the social side of cricket, too. He was also a benefactor of every club he was involved with.”
Ray Entwistle, president of Moorside CC, devoted a chapter to Trevor’s influence in his book detailing the club’s 150th anniversary.
Trevor also enjoyed crown green bowls and played for Moorside before playing for Springbank in the Saddleworth League and Oldham Veterans’ League. His funeral will take place at Oldham Crematorium on July 13 at 1pm.
