Taking the strain for drains

CRICKET: RAIN-SOAKED members of Glodwick Cricket Club, aged from seven to 70, raised £2,548 by walking, running or cycling to each of the 14 Saddleworth and District Cricket League grounds.
Setting off from separate starting points, six teams headed to different
destinations, before returning to their Warren Street home. They covered 51.6 miles.
The money will go towards improving drainage on the outfield, which needs urgent attention.
Glodwick CC chairman David Chaloner said: “It was a magnificent effort from the whole club and particularly from the co-ordinators Nigel Stock and Gordon Whitehead.
“Drainage is, unfortunately, a pretty hot topic at most cricket clubs this summer and this effort will go a long way to ensuring that we are as prepared as we can be next season.”
So impressed were the club’s sponsor, Delta Communications, with the dedication of their members, that they pledged a further £200 to the cash sum raised on the day.
