CRICKET: ALEX Peters did a Glenn McGrath when he stepped on a cricket ball during a Tuesday evening net session.

The Greenfield skipper faces some frustrating weeks on the sidelines with a fractured right ankle.

It is tough luck on a good cricketer who likes to carry the fight to the opposition. and has steered his side to second place in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

“I’ve got another scan on July 20 and I’ll know more then in terms of when I can play again,” he explained.

A win last Saturday would have lifted Greenfield to the top of the table — a great achievement considering they have neither a professional nor overseas amateur.

They had to settle for a draw as rain wrecked any hope of a positive result.

Tomorrow’s visitors, Stayley, will give stand-in skipper Adam Hayes plenty to think about.

Steve Bird’s men have won their last three completed league games to move on to the fringe of the top five.

Uppermill, the leaders, travel to Moorside. Players, officials and spectators will obeserve a minute’s silence before the match in honour of Moorside life president Trevor Bland, who died recently.

Saddleworth, despite their best efforts with several large sponges and a ringer which was last seen in an old Will Hay film, saw their game at home to Bamford Fieldhoue abandoned last weekend.

They go to Shaw, who have yet to discover a happy medium between very good or very bad.

Bamford Fieldhouse’s task is to get the better of Droylsden. The visitors to Hollin Lane have suffered more than most with the weather as five of their last six league games haven't seen a ball bowled.

SKIPPER Andrew Cadd is a doubt for the Saddleworth League’s group game against the Bolton League at Uppermill on Sunday (1.30pm).

The Austerlands bowler is carrying an ankle injury, but remains in the 12 selected for the Colts Inter-League clash.

The Saddleworth League side sees five changes to the one which overcame Lancashire County League at the beginning of June. The reason — holidays and Moore Cup semi-final commitments.
