ANDREW BUCKLEY . . . in sparkling form in one of Yorkshire’s top events.
BOWLS: ANDREW Buckley secured one of the biggest pay-outs of his bowling career when winning the Cleckheaton Open and top prize of £1,250.
The Nimble Nook ace defeated Derbyshire’s Andrew Spragg 21-9 in the final to earn his big pay-out.
But it was an epic semi-final against Dukinfield’s Gareth Gwilliam that captured the attention of spectators.
Leading 19-18, Buckley saw Gwilliam play a 10-inch bowl in the corners.
Under great pressure he turned his peg and knocked out Gwilliam’s bowl for two and game.
Also in the winner’s enclosure “over the border” in Yorkshire at the weekend was Tonge’s Gary Ellis, who picked up £1,000 for victory in the Sandal Classic in Wakefield.
Ellis beat Nook’s Gareth McMahon 21-15 in the final.
