DELPH had some cheer at the weekend in the Earnshaw Cup, thanks to a remarkable last over from young seamer Daniel Jones.
Defending 190 for five, the club’s second team appeared to be heading for certain defeat: Emley Clarence needed only two runs to win from six balls with four wickets intact.
However, cameth the hour, cameth the 14 year old.
Daniel, son of Delph stalwart Warren, produced an over he won’t forget in a hurry.
It went: dropped catch; wicket, dropped catch; wicket; dropped catch; run out.
Result — Delph won by one run.
The team plays Lascelles Hall at home in the semi-final on Sunday week.
