Leaders in Derbyshire showdown

BOWLS:
GREATER Manchester women, who top their group after three wins in as many matches, take on Derbyshire on Sunday (2pm).
Local players in action in the away leg at Calow BC are Eileen Dawson, Karen Houltston and Rachel Fish (Delph), Margaret Brooks and Jacquie Lord (Grapes), Alma Tickle and Chris Kewley (Springbank), Joan Horton (Diggle), Michelle Renshaw (Dunwood) and Diane Bowker (Oldham RU).
The home leg will be staged at Cadishead Conservative Club.
TONGE extended their advantage to 11 points in the Manchester Premier League despite losing 9-6 (183-163) at the Railway Hotel, Congleton. Nicky Brooks (21-13), Dave Cooper (21-20), Darren Griffiths (21-11) and Gary Ellis (21-13) earned victories on the night for the leaders, who visit Sale Excelsior on Wednesday (7.30pm).
A SUPERB display in bating South Yorkshire gave Greater Manchester juniors a place in the semi-finals of the Drakes Pride County Championship.
FREZLAND’S Lee Schofield made up for the disappointment of last-eight defeat in the Oldham Evening Chronicle Handicap by teaming up with club-mate John Ashton to reach the finals of the Thwaites men’s pairs at Norden.
Schofield and Ashton defeated Rochdale’s Andrew Lowe and Tim Holt 21-13. Heats continue on Sunday (5.30pm) when Nimble Nook’s Steve Mellor and Barry Seville are in action.
Maxine Fisher and Christine Seville will play in the AC Ventilation women’s pairs at the same time, while Oldham is also represented by A Gledhill and J Charlton.
