Saints look to cause shock

RUGBY:
OLDHAM St Anne’s must lick their wounds and forget about the bitter disappointment of last weekend’s defeat if they are to spring a surprise tomorrow.
Saints, second bottom of the National Conference League Division One, are in action in the second round of the Conference Challenge Cup.
Chris Deakin’s side are away to Premier Division outfit Thatto Heath (2.30pm kick-off).
With relegation more likely than not, success in this competition would really give the club — who have on board several young players of promise — a big boost.
Especially so, after the manner of the most recent loss to fellow strugglers Stanningley.
Tries in the late stages of the contest at Higginshaw Road from David Best and Michael Cadd had St Anne’s 24-20 in front, deep into added time at the end of the game.
But Stanningley scored a late converted try to inflict a dramatic defeat on the home side.
Saddleworth Rangers and Waterhead are out of the competition, so have a free weekend.
