DELPH captain Grant Jones has set his eyes on Sykes Cup glory as he gears up for Sunday’s semi-final at home to Hoylandswaine.

Should the team lift the cup it would be an historic achievement for the club, which has reached and lost four finals.

Delph travel to take on the same opponents tomorrow in the Drakes Huddersfield Premiership.

Jones said: “We all know it would be fantastic to win this competition because it is something we have never managed to do.

“The fact all previous final appearances have ended in disappointment will spur us on this time.

“We play Hoylandswaine twice in 48 hours so there won’t be any surprises. At the end of the day we know what they are all about — they are a good team who pose a threat.”

Jones returns from a three-week lay-off this weekend. He ruptured a calf muscle against Hoylandswaine in the reverse league fixture. Kyle Hogg isn’t available, after being called up for Lancashire duty.

WOODHOUSES will be confident of picking up a positive result tomorrow when they travel to basement boys Irlam in Lees Brewery Lancashire County League Division One. Mike Cassidy’s men are 11th but can climb the table if they win.
