CONFIDENCE is such a huge factor in sport – just ask Royton's cricketers.
Having started the Lake Garage CLL season so brightly, they suffered a series of depressing results which threatened to turn their season into a nightmare.
But Alan Durose and his team went into yesterday's derby game at Oldham on the back of two confidence-restoring wins.
Royton took first guard at the Pollards and although a total of 172 all out was not quite what they were looking for, compared to batting performances of a few weeks ago it was more than acceptable.
The home side must have been confident of chasing down Royton's score, but the visitors' impressive bowling attack clicked into gear again and skittled the hosts for 107.
CROMPTON suffered a sickening defeat at home to Milnrow, for whom professional Babar Naeem was in rampant form with the ball.
Taking first guard, Carl Taylor's men were dismissed for a paltry 59.
And Milnrow made short work of reaching their lowly target, losing just two wickets.
WERNETH were brought down to earth at Monton and Weaste, who batted first and rattled up 248 for three.
Werneth never threatened to get near that total and were bowled out for 163.
THERE were two hat-tricks in yesterday's CLL programme - Walsden pro Ranil Dhammika and Norden's Hashim Malik achieving their feats in their teams' victories over Littleborough and Rochdale.
